Basu Gautam is a dynamic and visionary leader, author, educator, and environmentalist dedicated to fostering global harmony, sustainable development, and grassroots climate action. Born and raised near the sacred historic birthplace of Lord Buddha in Lumbini, Nepal, he has spent over fourteen years driving impactful community development, policy dialogue, and civic engagement across both Nepal and the United States.
An alumnus of Strayer University (USA) with a degree in Computer Science, Mr. Gautam blends technological innovation with deep cultural diplomacy. His extensive professional portfolio includes high-level advisory roles with premier international organizations. He has served as a National Consultant for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Peace Building and Recovery Unit, an Independent Consultant for the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), and a research consultant for Princeton University’s Innovations for Successful Societies program. Notably, as the National Program Coordinator for Demo Finland’s ‘Youth Project’ in Nepal, he spearheaded critical cross-party political dialogues to establish a unified, constructive national youth agenda.
A deeply experiential and widely traveled leader, Mr. Gautam possesses an unmatched, boots-on-the-ground understanding of his homeland, having traveled to all 77 districts of Nepal. This profound regional insight is complemented by a vast global perspective, shaped by his travels to 43 countries across the world. This rare combination of deep local roots and expansive international exposure uniquely equips him to bridge grassroots realities with global development paradigms.
Driven by an unwavering belief in freedom, equality, and human happiness, Mr. Gautam channels his passion into action as the Founder and President of the Lumbini World Peace Forum (LWPF). Under his guidance, the forum has evolved into a global platform that uses art, innovation, and cross-cultural dialogue to build a more just world. He is the main architect behind the flagship 1 Million Trees Plantation and Conservation Initiative, an ambitious campaign that has mobilized thousands of youth and civil society members to combat climate change, planting hope and restoring ecosystems one sapling at a time.
In addition to his humanitarian and climate advocacy, Mr. Gautam is a regular contributor to national media on the green economy and an accomplished documentary and landscape photographer. His photography has been showcased in frequent global exhibitions, serving as a visual bridge for cross-cultural understanding. For his profound contributions to society, he has been honored with numerous accolades, including the Youth Inspiration Award by the Global Youth Parliament and being named a Peace Ambassador by the Municipality of Sarno, Italy.
